FORT WORTH, TX — It never hurts to be an unemployed race driver but show up to races anyways. You never know what’s going to happen.
For Santino Ferrucci, it led him back to a familiar team.
Ferrucci, will sub for Jack Harvey in the No. 45 Honda in Sundays XPEL 375 (12:30 p.m. ET, NBC, INDYCAR Radio Network). Harvey, crashed in final practice on Saturday evening and due to not passing concussion protocols, he will have to sit out the second race of the 2022 NTT INDYCAR Series season.
“Per INDYCAR protocol, all drivers wear accelerometers that measure g-forces exhibited during an incident,” an INDYCAR statement read. “These get evaluated, fully, after each incident, and if the result of the g-forces surpasses the minimum threshold, drivers must be re-evaluated prior to returning to competition. Following the protocol, the driver of the No. 45, Jack Harvey, was re-evaluated this morning and was not cleared for racing. Harvey is working closely with the INDYCAR medical team regarding next steps.”
In the case of Ferrucci, this will make his 41st start in the series with five of which coming for this same Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing team a year ago. In his five appearances, he had four top 10s.
He’s raced at Texas twice with a best result of fourth as a rookie in 2019.
