Pep Boys NHRA Call Out details

CLERMONT, Ind — A race within a race is back this weekend for the Pep Boys NHRA Call Outs. Both Nitro divisions will feature the All Star race format on Saturday and Sunday with the Top Fuel semi finals and finals on Saturday and the Funny Car portion on Sunday.

For Top Fuel, their Callout is the resumption of Gainesville from this past spring. Rain shifted it to Indy. The drivers left are Brittany Force, Steve Torrence, Justin Ashley and Mike Salinas.

Force gets the selection for her semifinal opponent between Torrence, Ashley and Salinas. She’ll make her selection at 7:20 p.m. ET on Friday night with the semis the next day at 2:40 p.m. ET on Saturday and the finals at 6:25 p.m. ET.

In Funny Car’s the 8 driver field is now set with points leader Robert Hight clinching the top seed. He’ll get a chance to call out his 1st round opponent from the other seven drivers among (Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, Cruz Pedregon, John Force, Bob Tasca III, Alexis DeJoria and Tim Wilkerson).

That’s a star studded field.

(Note: Hight will get first selection for the opening round, followed by the next-highest seeded driver until matchups are set.)

Hight has 6 wins this season alone. Capps is the defending world champion, Hagan won the title three times, Pedregon is a two-time champ, Force has won 16 titles, Tasca III is on a hot streak, DeJoria a former US Nats champion and Wilkerson the defending US Nats champ.

After Hight picks, it’s Capps turn so long as Hight doesn’t pick him. Then the next pick goes to Hagan and so forth.

After the matchups are set and ran, the second round goes as follows. The driver who makes the quickest winning run in the opening round will get the chance to select their semifinal opponent, automatically locking in the other semifinal matchup.

The purse for this event is $130k with $80k going to the winner alone.

Callouts will take place at 2 p.m. locally here on Saturday with the bracket being run a day later.

First round is set for 1:20 p.m. ET, semifinals is 2:45 p.m. ET and the final round at 4:55 p.m. ET. FS1 will have live TV coverage for Sunday.

A special Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout autograph session will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Pep Boys midway display, with an autograph session featuring the eight drivers in Funny Car happening the next day at 11:45 a.m. at the Pep Boys midway display.
