Trends say Joey Logano is a lock to make the NASCAR Cup Series’ Championship 4 again this year. He made the Championship 4 in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. That’s every other year. Does 2022 follow suit?
Logano certainly hopes so.
2022 looks a lot like the seasons that he did advance on.
2014 he had 3 regular season wins. In 2016 and 2018 he had 1 win during those respective regular seasons. In 2020 he had 2. This year he also enters the final 10 week stretch with a pair of wins again.
He started off with 5 top 10’s, 3 of the 5 in the top 5 at that, in the first 9 races. Then after a pair of finishes outside the top 25, he’d win 2 of the next 4. After that stretch he’d have 1 top 15 in the next 6 race stretch. But he’s gotten hot again with 4 top 6 results over the final 6 races to the regular season now.
At Darlington, the site of this weekend’s playoff opener, he won this past May. The Round of 12 is a dangerous one but in the Round of 8 he was 2nd at Martinsville this spring and 8th at Phoenix, the site of this year’s championship.
