We all 3 picked up the win via Chase Elliott last Sunday night in the Ally 400 at the Nashville Superspeedway. Now, can we keep it going this weekend at Road America?
The odds are favorable again if you avoid Hendrick Motorsports. However, do you really want to do? Especially with them coming off of a win?
In saying that too, they’re also finally dropping into our favor again. As an example, entering 2022, HMS had won won 9 of the last 11 overall road course races. They went 1-2 in COTA, 1-2 in Sonoma, 1-2 in Watkins Glen and 3-4 in Indy just last year. This season though?
They’re 0-for-2.
Prime Sports NASCAR Preview Show
They were 2-1 and 3-1 heading into COTA but finished 2-4-12-29. For Sonoma, a track they beat the brakes off the field of in 2021, they finished 8-9-15-16.
That’s why you can get them at where you can right now. But do you trust them?
Same for Joe Gibbs Racing. If you combine them with HMS, had combined to win 11 of the last 14 road course races in that span. Throw in Furniture Row Racing (Martin Truex Jr.) who was aligned with JGR, these three teams have won 14 of the last 18 road course races coming into 2022. The only ones they didn’t win was when Ryan Blaney (Team Penske) was victorious in 2018 on the Charlotte ROVAL when Truex was crashed in the final turn on the final lap as well as AJ Allmendinger stealing the way at Indy last August when Denny Hamlin was spun while leading coming to the white flag or else it would be 18 straight.
They’re also 0-for-2 this season with Trackhouse Racing winning both road course events. JGR and Toyota in general went 3-7-18-28-32-38 in COTA and 18-26-27-30-31-36 in Sonoma.
While they had speed in Nashville, I don’t necessarily think a concrete oval translates over to a road course.
That’s why you have to dig a bit deeper this weekend to find a winner but if you can find it, you’ll be rewarded handsomely.
