LONG BEACH, Calif — Team Penske is 3-for-3 to start the 2022 NTT INDYCAR Series season off with. They’ve won with 2 of their 3 drivers. However, the winless one is one that’s confident in his championship abilities for later this season.
Will Power finished fourth in Sunday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. It was his fourth top seven in his last six Long Beach starts. The thing is, it was also his third straight top five result to start the 2022 season off with. The last time he’s done that?
2014. He won the title that season. The only other time he did so was in 2010. He finished second in points that year too.
That has Power knowing that his time is coming again here soon. If you go back to last season, he’s been outside of the top 4 just twice in the last 8 races. He had two top fours in the 12 starts prior.
Power, entered the weekend second in points but 28 points back. He leaves fourth in points but is gained 12 points as he trails Josef Newgarden by 16 heading to the Barber Motorsports Park on May 1. At Barber, Power is a two-time winner and was runner-up last year. Then, we go to the IMS road course where Power won the last time out in August of 2021.
He’s right. The time is now for him.
