DAYTONA BEACH, Fla — The final dress rehearsal for Sunday’s 64th annual Daytona 500 (2:30 p.m. ET, FOX, MRN) took place this morning with the weather delayed NASCAR Cup Series practice session. In it, the Ford’s once again dominated.
They were quickest in literally every practice session for Cup Series competition during Speedweeks with no one from any other manufacturer even sniffing the top five.
On Saturday morning, rookie Harrison Burton topped the charts with a speed of 188.355 mph. His fellow rookie classmate of Austin Cindric (188.265 mph) was third in his No. 2 Ford to give us two rookies in the top three in the final session.
Joey Logano was the meat in the sandwich with a speed of 188.324 mph in his No. 22 Ford while SHR teammates of Kevin Harvick (188.257 mph) and Chase Briscoe (188.229 mph) rounded out the top five.
Ford’s swept the entire top eight in the practice with all four SHR cars and all four Penske or their alliance car (Wood Brothers) doing it.
Those were really the only ones drafting with only 19 cars turning a lap. Just Alex Bowman and William Byron did for Hendrick Motorsports while all the Toyota’s, both Trackhouse cars, both RCR cars and many others decided to sit this one out.
Another car to sit it out was Jacques Villeneuve. They had a problem with the throttle cable in the Duels and then had to change engines after Friday’s practice.
