NASCAR Pre-Race Media: Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 (3 p.m. ET, FOX, MRN) race preview/favorites

TRACK: Richmond Raceway (.75 mile oval). DISTANCE: 400 Laps — STAGE 1: 80 Laps, STAGE 2: 155 Laps, FINAL STAGE: 165 Laps, MILES (300 Miles)

Starting Lineup

Favorites – JGR vs. Penske battle?

Martin Truex Jr.

He has to be the overall favorite, right? Truex, swept both Richmond races in 2019 and was runner-up last Fall. He also won Phoenix last month too.

Kyle Busch

He may have finished sixth last year, but he also has five straight top eight results including a top two in half of his last 10 Richmond starts.

Brad Keselowski

Hard to be against him at Richmond. He won the lone race on the Virginia short track last year and has seven top 10’s in his last nine starts there. Keselowski, had a top five finish at Phoenix last month too.

Joey Logano

A third place run a year ago to go along with a runner-up in this race in 2019 gives him two top three’s in his last three Richmond tries. Logano, also has five top fives in his last six spring race Richmond starts overall.

Race Preview

The Virginia swing comes to a close on Sunday as the third straight race on a short track, including the Bristol dirt occurs at the Richmond Raceway. Will this weekend’s race produce another unpredictable winner?

I think it should be a Penske vs. Gibbs show though with them combining to win the last five Cup races on the .75-mile short track including nine of the last 10 overall.

Hendrick Motorsports hasn’t won there since 2008. Chevrolet has won just four of the last 23 times at Richmond, so this could be a spot to where Penske and/or Gibbs dominates on Sunday.

Top Stat

3 of the 4 Championship 4 drivers finished in the top 5 at Richmond a year ago. Will Sunday be a precursor to who’s battling for the championship in Phoenix later in the year?
