Erik Jones and Matt DiBenedetto have to wonder what if. What if Jones made the playoffs. This is the second time in four years that he didn’t and in the two previous years that he did, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver struggled. In six combined first round races, Jones had five finishes of 30th or worse.
This year, he doesn’t make the playoffs and he’s having a career run now in them.
Jones, has four top eight finishes in five tries including three of which in the top five.
He’s showing the owners out there that they should give him a chance in 2021 since he’s a free agent.
So is DiBenedetto. It’s looking all the more likely that he won’t be back in the No. 21 Ford next season. He said that after bad luck took him out in the opening round that it was unfortunate due to how strong the second round tracks were for him.
He crossed the finish line second in both of them. I know he was penalized on the end of the Talladega race, but still, he’s there.
Now, it’s to the ROVAL to where both have been surprisingly good on road courses.
