Chase Elliott was a lap away from winning the Coca-Cola 600 back on May 24. A few days prior he had the win in the bag at Darlington while running second. A week after, he swept both stages at Bristol and was in second in the final laps but crashed with Joey Logano. Two weeks ago he had a win almost locked up in the Southern 500.
In Charlotte, a late caution came out and he was a lame duck on track. If he didn’t pit, everyone else would. If he did, like he ended up doing, no one else would. He’d end up finishing second as a result.
On May 20, he was running second to Denny Hamlin. The thing is, Hamlin didn’t pit and had old tires on a track that chews up and spits out tires. Kyle Busch hooked him, Elliott crashed and finished 38th. It started raining right after.
For the Southern 500, Elliott was leading but was wrecked by Martin Truex Jr. with 14 to go. In the first race at Bristol, he wrecked.
That’s four wins taken away. Can he make up for that on Saturday in the Bristol night race?
Elliott, was third in this race in 2018. He was fifth last year. He won the All-Star race though in July.
Can he get another major win? Stats prove he will be there when it matters. Can he finish it off?
