There’s not a whole lot that NASCAR drivers hope to have by time their racing careers are finished. They want a championship, a Daytona 500 win, a Brickyard 400 win, a Coca-Cola 600 win, a Southern 500 win and a Bristol Night race triumph.
They’d prefer multiple of each, but to get any of them make career defining moments.
That’s why it’s rare to get wins in all or even half of them. The best of the best win these races. That’s why most end up in the Hall of Fame at the end.
For three NASCAR drivers, they’ve got the credentials for a Hall of Fame nod when they’re done driving, but one thing missing, is an Indy win. Maybe that comes this weekend.

This race is a crown jewel still. Everyone wants to win it. That’s why it’s so darn hard to do so. Just look at the race winners in his long history of this race. There’s not many flukes, four out of 26 to be exact. Names like Gordon, Earnhardt, Stewart, Jarrett, Elliott, Labonte. They’ve all won here and are in the Hall of Fame. Johnson, Harvick, Keselowski and Busch are all Future Hall of Famers and have won at Indy too.
So, who will go down in motorsports lore on Sunday at the Brickyard?
It will be the usual suspects, which is why Denny Hamlin (0-for-14) and Joey Logano (0-for-11) will have good chances on earning their first Indy wins. They’ve won Daytona but not Indy. Both have been so strong lately here with Hamlin scoring five top six finishes in his last four Brickyard starts and Logano six top eight’s in his last seven tries.
Can they get their first Brickyard wins?
What about Martin Truex Jr. He’s never won Daytona or Indy. He’s won a championship and is for sure getting into the Hall when he hangs up his helmet. Truex, has had strong cars here but just can’t finish.
His last three finishes are 33rd, 40th and 27th respectively.
Without any practice, the top will rise still at Indy and these are three to watch.
