Texas To Have Fans For NASCAR Race Next Month

NASCAR is starting to allow fans back at their races again. Last weekend, 1,000 fans were allowed through the gates at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. This weekend, around 5k fans will be at the GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway. Earlier this week, NASCAR and Bristol Motor Speedway announced that they were moving the All-Star race next month from Charlotte to Bristol and 30k tickets could be sold.

Now, Texas joined the party.

The Texas Motor Speedway announced on Friday that they will begin to see tickets for next month’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 (3 p.m. ET, NBCSN, PRN). Texas Governor Greg Abbott approved a comprehensive action plan to allow fans to attend the rescheduled race on July 19.

“Texans are eager for sporting and entertainment events to return and this is a great step towards that goal,” Abbott said. “As we continue to open Texas, it is essential that we do so in a way that keeps Texans safe and limits the spread of COVID-19. Texas Motor Speedway has put a tremendous amount of work, time and energy into ensuring that this race meets all the necessary safety and health standards and I applaud them for this effort.

“As with any public event or gathering, I urge all Texans to make smart decisions to protect their health including wear a face mask, washing their hands and practicing social distancing.

“Texans are exicted for NASCAR and are ready to return to the grandstands and I thank Texas Motor Speedway for making sure that we do this in a safe and smart way.”

Part of that plans is for the grandstands and suites being open to fans but subject to social distancing requirements and additional protocols. This will also be the first major sports event in Texas since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tracks says that no tickets purchased prior will be honored as refunds will be made for them. You’ll need a new ticket purchased for the new event. All new tickets will be digital too.

Also, SMI strongly urges fans to wear masks while there while all their employees, vendors and NASCAR personnel will be wearing them too.

Only clear bags will be allowed through the gates and the max size of them are 14″x14″x14″.

Concession stands are card only with no infield access allowed.

NASCAR said last week that they’re using a stair step process in allowing more and more fans back and working with local health officials at these tracks to come up with the right numbers. It’s likely Texas’ capacity could range from 25-50%.
