INDIANAPOLIS — The long awaited announcement was finally confirmed on Thursday. Dale Coyne Racing announced that they will remain partnered with Vasser Sullivan again for the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season and have Santino Ferrucci in the No. 18 Honda.
Essentially, Ferrucci replaces Sebastien Bourdais in the ride.
Bourdais, was told this past November that the ride wasn’t his anymore. DCR took a hit from Honda and they needed drivers to bring them funding. Unfortunately, Bourdais didn’t have much.
So, Bourdais, despite winning twice with DCR since 2017 and being their main driver, was out.
Alex Palou was signed to the No. 19 Honda as he brought money. In turn, that left Ferrucci was the odds on favorite to land the No. 18 ride, as he had some funding and was phenomenal as a rookie in 2019.
Now, the deal is official.
Ferrucci, had seven top 10’s last year, three of which being inside of the top five.
