“Today is on me” Says Logano On Another Tough Finish At Charlotte

Joey Logano knew he was likely going to be advancing to the Round of 12 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. All he had to do was finish 25th or better in Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400. The Team Penske driver hasn’t finished that bad all season.

By the end of the first stage, he had accumulated enough stage points to clinch his spot into the second round. From then on, it was all about getting back to victory lane.

See, Logano hasn’t won a race since the June 10 visit to the Michigan International Speedway. He’s struggled as of late. Heading into the final race of the opening round, xix of his last eight Cup starts have seen him finish outside of the top 10. He’d had one top five finish in his last 11 races.

Not very much momentum for the defending Cup champion.

So, for him to bring his No. 22 Ford home 10th on Sunday, it was another race of what could have been. Logano, doesn’t feel like they are lacking pace, he just feels like he’s screwing up inside of the car.

“Today is on me,” Logano said. “We had a pretty good car, something that could compete. We were in the top five there the first stage and looked like we were gonna have a car that could contend and then I just made a mistake on pit road and hit the wall. It’s not speed. I keep saying that. It’s not that we’re far off on speed, we just have to clean up the races and today is on me.”

Now, it’s to Dover, a place where he’s struggled at. Logano, has scored just two top five finishes at the Monster Mile since 2014.
