With another seat off the board, a look at NASCAR’s silly season and what’s left

Ryan Preece confirmed on Tuesday that he in fact will be back in his No. 41 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2023. It takes a potential seat away as this one was an interesting one that some say SHR was selling a charter or two or others saying Preece may be out. Preece dispelled that on Tuesday.

Now, what’s left?

Aric Almirola’s the top domino. Is he back? SHR could use his funding from Smithfield as word is if he does decide to retire, Smithfield may depart with him. It’s getting late in the game here to even attract a top driver for a top seat.

Past that, there’s not many Cup seats left.

Hendrick Motorsports will boast the same four-car line in 2024. So will Joe Gibbs Racing. Team Penske has the same trio. Front Row Motorsports already announced they’ll stay status quo with Michael McDowell and Todd Gilliland. Trackhouse, RCR and RFK Racing will each keep the same two drivers. JTG will keep Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Spire has Corey LaJoie returning.

Which honestly in regards to Chevrolet. Kaulig has the 16 seat and Spire the 77.

Toyota is set with everyone returning and adding LMC with Erik Jones and Nemechek.

Ford has Rick Ware Racing signing Justin Haley. Their other seat is open.

That’s it.

For the Xfinity Series, Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed will be back with RCR. We know Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer will be back with JRM and they signed Sammy Smith to come over to replace the departing Josh Berry.

Kaulig Racing likely has Chandler Smith back and if not him, then maybe AJ Allmendinger comes back down.

The most intriguing thing to watch here is what Joe Gibbs Racing does for their three-car lineup. All three rides are open.

Stewart-Haas Racing has the 00 and 98. Are Cole Custer and Riley Hebst back?

There’s more movement in the Xfinity Series than Cup right now.
