Silly Season has been quite pleasant this year with most of the rides for 2024 already announced. Last week, it was Denny Hamlin and John Hunter Nemechek being named to rides with Hamlin staying put and Nemechek to Legacy Motor Club’s No. 42 Toyota.
This week, there was more Xfinity Series news but on Friday, it was Kaulig Racing announcing that Daniel Hemric will be Justin Haley’s replacement in the No. 31 Chevrolet.
Josh Berry got this whole thing started when he was announced as the driver of the No. 4 Ford replacing the departing Kevin Harvick. Then it was Martin Truex Jr. as the next domino as he announced this summer that he’d return to the No. 19 Toyota for another season.
So, what’s left?
Hendrick Motorsports will boast the same four-car line in 2024. So will Joe Gibbs Racing. Team Penske has the same trio. Front Row Motorsports already announced they’ll stay status quo with Michael McDowell and Todd Gilliland. Trackhouse, RCR and RFK Racing will each keep the same two drivers. JTG will keep Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Spire has Corey LaJoie returning.
Which honestly in regards to Chevrolet. Kaulig has the 16 seat and Spire the 77.
Toyota is set with everyone returning and adding LMC with Erik Jones and Nemechek.
Ford has Rick Ware Racing signing Justin Haley. Their other seat is open. The only other thing available is are two Stewart-Haas Racing rides.
That’s it.
For the Xfinity Series, Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed will be back with RCR. We know Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer will be back with JRM. I don’t see Justin Allgaier leaving.
So, what’s left?
Well you have Berry, Nemechek and Hemric’s seats now to fill with JR Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing and Kaulig Racing respectively.
Chandler Smith is back in some capacity. Is he moving up to the 16 in the Cup Series or staying in the Xfinity Series for another year. It’s really down to he and AJ Allmendinger for which series each drives in meaning I don’t see a path that Kaulig has an open seat. It’s just what driver is in what.
JGR has Sammy Smith in the 18. Is he back or do all 3 cars come open?
Stewart-Haas Racing has the 00 and 98. Are Cole Custer and Riley Hebst back?
There’s more movement in the Xfinity Series than Cup right now.
