Felix Rosenqvist told us Friday that he’d have news to share regarding his 2024 plans in the next 2-6 days. Well, four days later, he spelled it out. Rosenqvist will join Meyer Shank Racing for next seasons NTT INDYCAR SERIES campaign as another silly season domino has fallen.
Two weeks ago it was Marcus Ericsson leaving Chip Ganassi Racing for Andretti Autosport. Last week it was Linus Lundqvist replacing Ericsson. Now this.
Between that was Romain Grosjean confirming he won’t be returning to Andretti Autosport and David Malukas saying he has something in place but can’t announce until after the season.
By all accounts, these are all tied together.
I’ve heard Malukas will be replacing Rosenqvist with McLaren. Also, McLaren will be teaming up with an alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing keeping Callum Ilott in place.
DeFrancesco seems primed to replace Malukas at DCR and Grosjean could be on the radar to be his teammate.
Andretti could scale back to three cars if DeFranceso can’t keep the 29 in the top 22 of the leaders circle. He’s in the 22nd and final spot now.
Marcus Armstrong is the lead candidate to stay at Ganassi but to move up to full time. Graham Rahal should be staying put.
While the 6 car at McLaren, the 14 and 55 at Foyt, the 15 and 30 at RLL, the 77 and 78 at JHR, the 20 at ECR, 18 and 51 at DCR and the 29 at Andretti all appear to be open most have deals close to being done.
Malukas to the 6, I don’t see either Foyt or JHR driver leaving, Rahal to the 15 are all on the horizon. DeFrancesco to the 18 or 51 seems like a foregone conclusion meaning that the only true rides left for the taking are the 30 at RLL, the 20 at ECR and 1 seat at Coyne.
