VeeKay after redemption this weekend in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS — Rinus VeeKay is always happy to be racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Who isn’t? However, for the Dutch driver, this is the place that he’s had a lot of firsts at.

This was his first pole, his first win, his first Top-5.

“It’s a great place for me,” he said this week.

“I am very excited to get back to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, can never have enough races there.”

Now, VeeKay is after some redemption. Not for how anything in particular went on the road course race here in May, but from how the Indy 500 went 15 days later.

“Hopefully we can get a little redemption from earlier this year, from the Indy 500, we’re just going a different direction this weekend,” he said.

VeeKay had a strong car that day. He started on the front row and was in the lead group for much of the first half of the race with a shot to possibly win it over the second half. However, while exiting his pit stall under caution on Lap 94, he lost control of his No. 21 Dallara-Chevrolet and slid into Alex Palou.

While he escaped damage, he was penalized for the incident which dropped him to the rear. He rebounded for a top 10, but it was far short of where he could have been.

Now, he’s after more on Saturday and notes that they learned a lot from May’s GMR Grand Prix to bring over to his car this weekend.

“We learned a lot from the Indy GP during May that should help us now in August,” he says. “It’s good to be back on a road course for the first time in a while, no crazy bumps on this one! It’s going to be exciting and hopefully it’s a really good race for us and BITNILE.COM!”
