Conor Daly will be racing next Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. No, not in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race that afternoon, but in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race that takes place directly after.
Daly announced on Tuesday that he will drive the No. 44 Chevrolet for Alpha Prime Racing in the Aug. 12 race on the 2.439-mile road course layout. This will complete the trifecta in the top three divisions of NASCAR with this being his 8th appearance (3 in Cup, 2 now in NXS, 3 in Trucks) for a fourth different team.
His only and last Xfinity Series start came back in 2018 when he ran for Roush Fenway Racing at Road America.
The Noblesville native also ran in three Cup Series races for The Money Team including all since last Fall. He participated in the Charlotte ROVAL race last year, this year’s Daytona 500 as well as in COTA.
He’s also appeared in three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races, each with Niece Motorsports with his first stage being without any practice or qualifying in the middle of a pandemic in Las Vegas back in 2020. He finished 18th. The next spring, he showed back up with the same team on the same track.
He just raced in Mid-Ohio for them to where he placed 18th again.
Daly has made 10 Indy 500 starts with 3 top 5 finishes in his last 5 including leading the most laps in 2021, finishing sixth in 2022 and then eighth this past May.
He was let go from Ed Carpenter Racing after the Detroit race this past June but has since raced in Nitro Rallycross, three INDYCAR races for Meyer Shank Racing (Mid-Ohio, Iowa Doubleheader) and that aforementioned Truck Race in Mid-Ohio.
