INDYCAR to still race at Mid-Ohio next weekend

INDIANAPOLIS — After a couple of weeks of speculation, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES announced on Saturday that they will run at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course next weekend, with doubleheader races scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13.

“We look forward to an exciting weekend of racing action at an excellent venue,” a statement read.

Green Savoree Racing Promotions will contact customers soon with guidance regarding event attendance. Ohio has had stiff guidelines to limit large gatherings and the whole reason the race was postponed last month was due to having to have raced behind closed doors.

The promoters have lost all their other races this season so far. They can’t host a race due to that without fans. They need revenue. INDYCAR isn’t in a position to not charge a sanctioning fee and Mid Ohio wouldn’t be able to pay one without fans coming through the gates. So, this is positive news that at least some fans should be let in.

Also, there were reports that as of last week this race was 100% on. That’s false. The series was hopeful and optimistic but nothing was set until today. They were at the mercy of the Ohio government.

Saturday’s race will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) starting at 4:30 p.m. ET. Sunday’s race will be broadcast on NBC beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
