Ford has won four straight Michigan races. That bodes well for Team Penske. For one Penske driver, he’s hoping he can finally get a home state win.
Brad Keselowski, fresh off of a new contract extension, has been trying for years to win at the Michigan International Speedway. He’s always come up just short. Other than Daytona, this is a track that the Michigan native has always wanted to win at. Now, he enters this weekend with his best shot in years to do so.
He’s coming off of a win last Sunday in Loudon. He was runner-up the race prior in Kansas.
“You got two races at Michigan, which are a big deal to me because I’m from Michigan,” Keselowski said. “Pretty pumped. We’ve been really running well. I haven’t quite executed perfectly until this weekend. I think we have a great shot of doing just that at Michigan.
“Competition is going to be really tough. I think we all know how good Harvick is on those really big tracks. I’m going to have to be perfect to beat him.
“I’m thrilled that I have the opportunity with a car that has been fast. We’ll see how it plays out.”
But, the Michigan native also cautions that these two races don’t mean much more than that for him in terms of the season.
“Total honesty, they don’t mean much to the Playoffs,” Keselowski continued. “I think you look at the stretch of races right here, they’re mostly just kind of fun races. There’s somewhat lower pressure, chance to kind of work on yourself and the team. There’s not a lot that’s going to carry over to the Playoffs.”
Keselowski, has a great shot this year. He’s showing more and more speed in his No. 2 Ford and has three top six finishes in his last four Michigan starts but a top 11 in all but one of his last 15 starts on the season including two straight top twos.
