This is a big week for NASCAR. Fans are back. Not only are they back, they are in a big way. Last weekend, INDYCAR held the biggest crowd back for a sporting event in the United States since the pandemic began.
This week, both NASCAR races will far exceed that. The doubleheader in Elkhart Lake last Saturday and Sunday saw crowds near 10k. That beat the Homestead race (1k) and doubled Talladega (5k).
Now, we get the All-Star race at Bristol on Wednesday night which will allow 30k in. Then, on Sunday, the Cup Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway will be at a bigger capacity.
This decision will definitely get scrutinized. As cases are rising in America, especially in Texas, fans are still being allowed in and it’s a big deal.
The next events after may not have many fans at them. Kansas has already said no. So did Michigan. Dover likely will be behind closed doors too. Only New Hampshire and Daytona would be tracks between now and Labor Day who could have fans back.
