Chase Briscoe Spins And Wins Sunday’s NXS Race In Pocono, Main Takeaways

Brandon Jones won the NASCAR Truck Series Race this morning at the Pocono Raceway. An hour and nine minutes later, Jones crashed in Turn 1 of Lap 1 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race on the same 2.5 mile track.

That wasn’t the wildest part either of Sunday’s Pocono Green 225. A race that featured a record 10 cautious, four in the first 15 laps, had a wild ending.

Chase Briscoe one upped it all. The Indiana native had a pit road speeding penalty at the end of Stage 2. He then spun while leading with 18 laps remaining in the race. 16 minutes later, Briscoe was back to the point.

Briscoe, spun on Lap 68 and led the field across the finish line on Lap 91 for his fourth win of the season in his No. 98 Ford and sixth of his NXS career.

Briscoe, had a goal this season of winning eight times. He’s already halfway there.

A spin and win on Sunday as he’s now 2-for-2 in NXS Sunday races.

Ross Chastain finished second in his No. 10 Chevrolet for his second straight runner-up and fifth straight top 10. Chastain, also has 10 top 10s in his last 11 races and won the $100k Dash 4 Cash for a second consecutive week.

Jeremy Clements finished third in his No. 51 Chevrolet while Myatt Snider and Michael Annett rounded out the top five.

For Briscoe and Chastain, they said that they had easier times coming through the field on Sunday due to so many heavy hitters being involved in incidents throughout the race.

Rough Day For JGR Cars

Sunday was an expensive day for Joe Gibbs Racing. It all started at the on the opening lap when the Truck Series Race winner Brandon Jones crashed in Turn 1. He made heavy contact with the inside wall in his No. 19 Toyota.

Then, on Lap 14, Harrison Burton got loose on oil and hit the exact same way in his No. 20 Toyota in Turn 1.

Finally, Riley Herbst crashed on Lap 48 ending a trifecta.

Paybacks?

It all started on Lap 48 when Riley Herbst got into the left rear quarter panel of Justin Haley’s No. 11 Chevrolet in Turn 3. Haley, didn’t like the contact and purposely hooked Herbst’s No. 18 Toyota on the straightaway.

While Haley said he was going to crash and had to turn left, NASCAR didn’t see it that way and penalized Haley two laps for his actions.

On the ensuing restart, Myatt Snider punted Noah Gragson on the straightaway exiting Turn 1 sparking a seven car crash. Remember, Snider and Gragson had beef earlier this season in Las Vegas.

Austin Cindric who led 11 laps and looked like the favorite to win was collected, so was Daniel Hemric, Justin Allgaier and Ryan Sieg too.

Haley’s Move Cost Team $100k

Justin Haley should have known better. On Lap 48, Riley Herbst got into the left rear quarter panel of Justin Haley’s No. 11 Chevrolet in Turn 3. Haley, didn’t like the contact and purposely hooked Herbst’s No. 18 Toyota on the straightaway.

Not only did it damage his car, NASCAR penalized him two laps for his actions.

That sealed his fate for winning the $100k Dash 4 Cash Bonus.

JRM Cars Looked Good Then Lap 52 Crash Cost Them The Win

Myatt Snider didn’t forget the Las Vegas incident with Noah Gragson. Snider, wasn’t going to let Gragson slide in front of him on the Lap 52 restart on Sunday at the Pocono Raceway and sparked a seven car melee.

Unfortunately, that damaged three of the four JR Motorsports cars too.

Gragson and his teammate Justin Allgaier would continue on with damage while Daniel Hemric’s day was ended.

JRM was 3-5-7-10 in Stage 1 and 1-3-4-7 in Stage 2. The finished the race 5-6-22-28.
