Ty Gibbs earned his third career ARCA Menards Series win in dominating fashion on Friday. The grandson of NASCAR Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, led 65 of 80 Laps in Friday evenings Anywhere Is Possible 200 at the Pocono Raceway.
Gibbs, 17, won an ARCA East race in Toledo a few weeks ago and now this in his No. 18 Toyota.
“It feels really good,” said Gibbs. “I’ve come here all my life to watch races and then I come here and win but it’s so hard to describe the feeling.
“It’s just amazing. I can’t thank everyone who has made this possible enough. It was fun a time. I really like the big tracks. It was just s blast.”
Gibbs becomes the 28th consecutive different ARCA Menards winner at Pocono, a streak that dates back to 2006 and includes current NASCAR Cup Series drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Joey Logano, Ty Dillon, Chase Elliott and Cole Custer.
Gibbs, bested Chandler Smith by 2.314 seconds. Smith, grabbed his second top five finish in as many starts this season in the No. 20 Toyota.
Sam Mayer was third in his No. 21 Chevrolet for his eighth career ARCA top five in just his 12th start.
Smith and Mayer were also celebrating birthdays as they turned 18 and 17 respectively.
Bret Holmes was scored in fourth at the finish for his 47th career top 10 result while pole sitter and points leader Michael Self rounded out the top five on Friday.
The ARCA Menards Series will be back on track for the Calypso Lemonade 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on Friday, July 3, 2020.
