Michael Self had drafting help at the end of Saturday’s ARCA Race at the Talladega Superspeedway from Venturini Motorsports Drew Dollar. But, in was Dollar who was the one celebrating in victory lane in the General Tire 200.
Self and Riley Herbst made contact in Turn 3 of the 2.66-mile Alabama oval which sent Self’s No. 25 Toyota spinning out of control. He remarkably saved it, but it was enough for Dollar to power by both en route to his first career ARCA victory in just his fifth career start.
Venturini has now has the first three ARCA races of the season by three different drivers.
This was their first race since Phoenix back in March, a span of 107 days.
“I definitely needed this one. I’m definitely out of breath right now,” Dollar said. “Venturini guys gave me the car out here today. Had the best team, had the best spotter in the stand in Joe White. He guided me through it.
“I lost a family member over the break so this is definitely emotional. This one’s for him. I know he’s watching from up above.”
Dollar, dominated early in leading the first 50 laps.
Ryan Repko finished second while Bret Holmes, Herbst and Self rounded out the top five.
The series is back next weekend in Pocono.
