Kyle Larson’s Indiana Midget Week streak came to an end on Friday night. Larson, started sixth but only got to second in night 2 at Putnamville, as Chris Windom finally topped the former NASCAR driver.
Windom, scores his second win of the season and second of his career during the 16th annual Midget Week.
It was also Windom’s fourth career USAC National Midget Series triumph as he takes over the season points lead as a result. He leads Tanner Thorson by 27 points now.

Thorson, was heading towards his third runner up finish in four Midget Week races before a mechanical failure occurred in the last corner on the final lap. He’d slow instantly and crawl to a seventh place finish as a result. He trails Windom by 27 points for the season championship and Larson by 28 points for the Midget Week top honors.
For Windom, he’s finished in the top five eight times in 2020 including being fourth on Tuesday night in Paragon as well as again last night on this very same race track.
Larson, was third on the final laps but finished runner up in his No. 86 Toyota due to Thorson’s bad luck. That ends a 10 race win streak too. Larson, won all three Midget Week races this past week.
The California native, won Tuesday night’s race with a text book pass of race leader Thorson with four laps left to score his eighth straight USAC National Midget Series victory when he’s been on US soil. Wednesday night, he passed defending Midget Series champion Tyler Courtney on Lap 18 and never looked back en route to his ninth straight win.
On Thursday night, he once again passed Thorson for the top spot on Lap 22 and won for the 10th straight time.
That streak dates back to the 2019 season in California, his homestate by the way, when he won at Placerville, Bakersfiled and Ventura. He then swept both nights of racing at the Gateway Dirt Nationals to close out the year in December.
In January, he scored a prelim night win in Tulsa then the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals later. Overall, he won eight races over the last 14 days if you count World of Outlaws and All Star into the mix too.
Still, he was close again and if not for contact with Courtney on Lap 7, he may have won. Courtney, finished 14th as a result. He’s only came home seventh, third 12th and 14th during Midget Week which is why he lost the points lead and has now fallen to third (-31).
Buddy Kofoid started on the pole and finished third. Kofoid, now has three top five results on the season and eight top 10s.
After not making the feature last night, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished fourth on Friday while Tanner Carrick rounded out the top five.
The week continues on tomorrow night in Lawrenceburg.
