Carlin To Run 1 Car Saturday At Texas

Carlin announced via their social media outlets on Tuesday morning that instead of bringing two teams to the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season opener on Saturday at the Texas Motor Speedway, that they’ll just bring one.

Conor Daly will still pilot the No. 59 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Genesys 300 (8 p.m. ET, NBC, INDYCAR Radio Network) while the No. 31 Chevrolet will be shelved for the time being.

The plan is to have the car back for the rest of the season, but with short notice and travel bans in place, the team wouldn’t be able to get the amount of personnel it takes to field a competitive car over here before the race. Since the next scheduled event on the calendar isn’t until July 4, this gives Carlin more time to get everything squared away.

Plus, they didn’t have a definitive driver set yet for that car. Charlie Kimball drove it for seven races in 2019 but he moves over to AJ Foyt Racing on a full time basis this season. RC Enerson, Sage Karam and Pato O’Ward shared the car for the remaining 10 races.

Felipe Nasr and Sette Camara were rumored to be in the running to share that seat for 2020, but nothing concrete was set.
