Chase Elliott is the “bow”nty winner. A $100k bounty was placed on a full time NASCAR Cup Series driver to beat Kyle Busch head-to-head in a Truck Series event.
Elliott, led a race-high 47 of 137 laps en route to his third career Truck Series win on Tuesday night at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in what was his first race in the series since 2017.
Fitting, it was Elliott who beat Busch. Just six days ago, a rivalry was sparked between them. In the closing laps of last Wednesday nights Toyota 500 at the Darlington Raceway, Busch made a mistake and hooked Elliott’s No. 9 Chevrolet on the front stretch. Elliott, was running second but finished 38th as a result of the contact. What made him and his team so mad was, he likely was going to win. Denny Hamlin was in front and on older tires. The rain was coming and hit just following the crash.
Elliott, gave Busch a middle finger salute, for which he said two days later was warranted and he didn’t take it back. But, the two did speak on Thursday and buried the hatchet — or so we thought.
“It was the closing laps and we were battling for the win,” said Elliott on Friday via a zoom call about the Busch incident. “We talked about it, and like I told him, I don’t think he wrecked me on purpose.
“I think he was trying to make a spot that wasn’t there. Much like I told him, I get that mistakes happen, that’s part of life. He’s just not a guy that makes many mistakes. For me to be on the poor end of a rare mistake is unfortunate for me and my team.
“Just hated it was me that took the blow.”
Busch, called Elliott a classy individual after their chat and said that he had no problem with him. He never did before either.
Then, Elliott goes out and beats Busch for $100k and what he did next may spark the feud again. Elliott did Busch’s trademark bow after the win. Busch, called the move “cute.”
“It was a spur of the moment thing. … It’s not a dig at anybody,” Elliott said. “Just having fun with it.
“Hopefully no one gets their feelings hurt over it. But if they do, they do. Whatever.”
Busch, was already frustrated anyways. His Truck had multiple issues all race to which Busch said heads will roll when he gets back home. The series hasn’t raced since Feb. 21 and and his No. 51 Toyota had multiple parts break early. The truck wasn’t ready. Busch, dealt with a truck too low, too high, a flat tire, a vibration and a questionable pit call to finish runner-up. He passed 81 trucks in all, including 18 in a four laps span at the end. It just wasn’t enough.
“It sucks when you start the race with broken pieces after sitting for 6 months, so there’s going to be some fucking talking when I get home,” Busch said. “That’s not acceptable. Only took one blunder. One time, that’s all it takes.”

[…] Elliott, then did Busch’s celebratory bow after victory which sparked maybe that the rivalry was back on. But, on Friday, Elliott tweeted out what he did with the money that he received. […]
