Kyle Busch Makes Last Lap Pass, Wins A Wild Alsco 300 At Charlotte

Kyle Busch passed Austin Cindric on the final lap of Monday’s Alsco 300 en route to the victory in NASCARs Xfinity Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The win, was Busch’s 97th of his NXS career and a record setting ninth on the 1.5 mile track. Among those nine actually — were six in the spring race.

Busch, may have swept both stages led a race-high 94 laps on Monday night, but he had an interesting final 50 or so laps in the process.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver had a 4+ second lead heading into the final green flag pit sequence, before he was caught speeding on pit lane. That’s where this race saw all hell break loose.

Busch and Pole sitter Ross Chastain combined to lead the first 149 laps and exchanged the lead a thrilling 11 times, but their race winning chances may have ended then.

Or did it. Busch subsequently caught a break. Timmy Hill blew an engine on Lap 154, just as Busch was serving his penalty, which saw Chase Briscoe and Chastain get into the wall in his oil as a result.

Chastain, had to pit for damage. Busch, got his lap back though.

The rebound was on. He steadily moved back up, as we saw six cautions fly over the final 46 laps. We had just five yellows in the opening 153 circuits around the 1.5 mile track. Overall, that’s 11 yellows in 300 miles in comparison to just eight in 600 miles of races on Sunday night.

Busch, got the lead back on Lap 190 but another caution came out on Lap 196. In overtime, Austin Cindric passed Busch on older tires on the restart, but Busch got him back on the last lap and earned his third top three finish in as many starts in 2020. He was runner-up to Briscoe on Thursday in Darlington. He’s now had five wins, two runner ups and a third place finish in his last 10 NXS starts.

Daniel Hemric hit pit lane for his final set of tires on Lap 176 and that helped him come up to finish second in his No. 8 Chevrolet. It was his sixth runner-up result of his career.

Cindric, was third in his No. 22 Ford while Chastain rebounded himself to finish fourth in his No. 10 Chevrolet. Justin Allgaier would round out the top five after not having any dash lights all race.

Odd Stat

This was the eight straight different winner on the Charlotte oval in NXS competition. Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Brad Keselowski and Tyler Reddick all won prior.

Also, Busch is the third different winner for JGR this season. Furthermore, we had eight straight winners come from the top 2 row in this race and 12 of the last 13. Busch, ended that as he rolled off from 18th.
