Earnhardt Jr To Race 1 Of The Homestead NXS Races

Dale Earnhardt Jr retired from racing on a full time basis a couple of years ago. But, he’s not fully ready to hang the helmet up for good just yet.

The North Carolina native has run one NASCAR Xfinity Series Race in each of the last two seasons. The plan was to do one again this year too.

See, Earnhardt is a co owner of JR Motorsports and knows he has an outlet to race some and it in turn helps his team exponentially gain sponsorship dollars to be on his car even if it’s just for one race.

So, the plan was to race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway back in March. One problem, the race was postponed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

On Thursday, NASCAR unveiled the new updated schedule which will see the Homestead weekend made up in June. The caveat to that is, Homestead is a doubleheader for the NXS guys. Earnhardt was only slated to race just once.

When asked, Earnhardt confirmed he will race one of the two races with it being the Saturday one instead.

Earnhardt, finished fourth in Richmond in his one start in 2018 and fifth a year ago at Darlington. Overall, he’s made 141 career NXS starts with 24 victories to his credit. He was also a back-to-back series champion in 1998 and again in 1999.
