NASCAR announced their immediate schedule a couple of weeks ago. In those plans are seven national series races over the course of 10 days which starts this Sunday afternoon at the Darlington Raceway.
The Cup Series starts on May 17 followed by their next 3 races being May 20, again at Darlington, then two races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24 and May 27 respectively.
The Xfinity Series returns to action for two races, one at Darlington (May 19) and one in Charlotte (May 25). The Truck Series will also start at Charlotte in May 26.
One driver is racing in all seven – Kyle Busch. He spoke on a radio show on Thursday confirming as much.
“I’m running all of those, every one that’s scheduled I’m in,” Busch told Adam Schein in an interview on SiriusXM Radio. “It’s going to be getting thrown to the wolves, that’s for sure.”
Busch has 209 career NASCAR wins, 56 in Cup, 96 in NXS and 57 in Trucks.
While it seems rigorous, Busch says quite the contrary. With one day shows at tracks near his home in North Carolina, it’s not going to be as strenuous as one would think.
“With this, all you can do is show up, you get in the vehicle and you run the race,” Busch said. “I feel as though it sounds really labor intensive and heavy and man, that’s a lot. But in my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘Man, I don’t know if it’s really going to be that bad.’ But I’ll let you know when it’s all said and done.”
A bounty was placed on Busch in the Truck Series by Kevin Harvick and Marcus Lemonis. If a full time Cup driver entered any of the remaining Truck races that Busch was to compete in and also beat him, they’d get $100k. Busch, is eligible to race in four more Truck races in 2020 as his initial schedule had him running at Atlanta, Homestead, Texas and Kansas. Now, he’s added Charlotte, meaning one of those four will drop off.
Initially, GMS Racing was going to take him up on the offer in having Chase Elliott race a Truck at Atlanta and again at Kansas with Kyle Larson taking him on in Homestead. Larson, is obviously now out but will anyone else step up to the plate in Charlotte?
