TALLADEGA, Ala – Ross Chastain is known as a very aggressive race car driver. That came back to bite him in Saturday’s Sugarlands Shine 250 at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Chastain, took over the lead on Lap 87 of the 94 Lap race, but that would be short lived. The NIECE Motorsports driver came down to try and block Sheldon Creed from the top of the banking in-between Turns 3 and 4 with just seven laps remaining in the opening race of the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks Series Round of 6 and that sparked a nine Truck crash.

“I turned left on them,” a disappointed Chastain said. “Sorry to everyone that got taken out. That one is on me. I’m so excited we get to go onto Martinsville and Phoenix to try and redeem ourselves and press the attack.”

Chastain, came into the second round of the playoffs on the heels of three straight top eight finishes in the first round, including two of which being in the top three. Now, he heads to the second race of the second round with just his third finish outside of the top 10 over his last 10 starts. All are in the last six races though too.

He’s last in the points now, but only two points out as his eight stage points scored on Saturday helped big time. Will that now change his approach for the final two races of this round?

“Absolutely not,” Chastain continued. “I will go and try and win practice, try and win qualifying and try and win the race. Just go an execute. That was poor execution on my part. Sorry to everyone involved. We just have to go an execute. That’s my job and that’s what we’re going to do.”
