Will Force Earn 151st NHRA Victory? Can Capps Get 1st US Nationals Wally?

This week through Labor Day, the 65th National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) U. S. Nationals will be contested at Lucas Oil Raceway Park. The topic of most conversations this week will be about John Force and his milestone of 150 Nitro Funny Car wins. Add to that his four U.S. Nationals wins makes him the most prolific driver in NHRA history. With that said, here is a list of his milestone wins.

First : 1987 Montreal, Canada defeating Ed McCulloch.

25th  : 1993 Atlanta, Georgia defeating Chuck Etchells.

50th :  1996 Gainesville, Florida defeating Chuck Etchells

75th :  1999 Atlanta, Georgia defeating Whit Bazemore

100th: 2002 Houston, Texas defeating Tommy Johnson Jr.

125th: 2007 Brainerd, Minnesota defeating Bernstein Kenny

150th: 2019 Kent, Washington defeating Ron Capps

Ron Capps is second on the all time Nitro Funny Car win list with 63 wins. Ironically none of those wins have been at the U.S. Nationals. His first win came in 1995 in a Top Fuel Dragster with the next 63 in a Nitro Funny Car for a total of 64 NHRA wins.

He enters this weekend’s U.S. Nationals hot off a victory at Brainerd Minnesota on August the 18th. That makes him highly optimistic about his chances for his first U.S. Nationals victory.

Are both men peaking at the right time? Will John Force record his 151st Funny Car win? Or, will Ron Capps record his 1st Funny Car U.S. Nationals win? Those questions will be answered late afternoon on Labor Day.
