Even though Kevin Harvick is starting to turn things on, it still appears that the battle to win the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship is still down to Kyle Busch vs. Joey Logano.
Last weekend in Michigan was Logano’s best shot at redemption and to regain the points lead back. The reason this is so big is, the winner nets 15 additional playoff points at the end. Logano, lost the points lead to Busch following Watkins Glen and trailed him by 13 points heading to Michigan.
Michigan, has statistically been a bad track for Busch but a good track for Logano. For a majority of the day, it looked like Logano would indeed take the points lead back. But, his fuel mileage in the end ruined that as Busch finished sixth and Logano 17th. The lead is up to 20 now.
Despite that, the two have really struggled though as of late. Busch, hasn’t had a top five finish in a month. The runner-up to his brother Kurt Busch in Kentucky is his lone top five in the last seven races.
Logano, hasn’t had a top five since June 30 at Chicagoland Speedway. Four of his last six finishes have seen him result in 13th or worse efforts.
But, Bristol is the place where both could turn things back around too.
Busch has three wins in his last four starts there. Logano, has seven top 10’s in his last eight tries including leading 146 laps in a third place run back in April.
