Keselowski Earns Homestate Pole In Michigan

BROOKLYN, Mich – Brad Keselowski was the final qualifier of the day on Friday from his home track at the Michigan International Speedway. The pole for Sunday’s Consumers Energy 400 (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) came down to him or Kevin Harvick. All Keselowski had to do in his No. 2 Ford was to top 190.089 mph.

The catch is, Keselowski had just one lap, like everyone else before him, to set the pace.

The Team Penske driver would do just that. Keselowski, circled the 2-mile, D-Shaped oval with a top lap of 190.471 mph en route to his second Busch Pole Award of the season and the 16th of his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career.

Keselowski’s Team Penske teammate of Joey Logano won the pole back in June and used that to his advantage. Logano, led 163 of 203 laps two months ago en route a dominating victory. It was the last time though that a Penske car drove into victory lane in a Cup race.

This was also the second time in the last three years that Keselowski will start P1 in the August return trip to the Irish Hills. Plus, between him and Logano, they have won the pole in five of the last eight Cup races at MIS.

Harvick, obviously joins Keselowski on the front row in his No. 4 Ford for an all blue oval front row near their homebase of Dearborn, Mich.

Hendrick Motorsports teammate of William Byron (189.703 mph) and Alex Bowman (189.509 mph) share Row 2 with them starting third and fourth respectively.

Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five in his No. 14 Ford. Last weeks winner in Chase Elliott gave HMS three cars in the top six as he will roll off sixth in his No. 9 Chevrolet.
