Top 4 In Indy Car Standings Shining, Have Won Last 9 Races On Season

Want to win in the NTT IndyCar Series, you need to be on top of your game. There are now fluke winners here. Just look at the last nine races on the season – all nine of them had the race winner be in the top four of the current points standings.

Yes, Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, Simon Pagenaud and Scott Dixon have combined to win every Indy Car race since Long Beach. They’ve also won the last three races at Mid-Ohio as well.

All four are on top of their games right now and in an intense title race for the Astor Cup. With how this season has gone, expect one of which to win on Sunday afternoon. Furthermore, the last three winners at Mid-Ohio were in the top three of the standings right now. Pagenaud (2016), Newgarden (2017) and Rossi (2018). In fact, four of the last five years have seen all four win as Dixon won in 2014 too.

Plus, the “Big 3” have been downright dominant. Between Team Penske, Chip Ganassi Racing and Andretti Autosport, they’ve won 10 races already in 2019 and 11 of the last 12 at Mid-Ohio overall.

All four are confident heading into this weekend. Dixon, says that this is their best shot at a win in fact.

“Mid-Ohio is a place that we as a team have always felt that all of our cars have a shot at winning, and there aren’t many tracks out there where your confidence level is that high as a team,” said the five-time Mid-Ohio winner. “It’s a track that really feels like home to me. I’ve said over the years that it’s a rhythm track, and it’s very technical. You have to get a lot of things right to go to victory lane there. We need a big finish for the championship with five to go starting this weekend in the PNC Bank car. Mid-Ohio would be a great place to start a run of strong results.”

Newgarden’s confidence is also up as well. After all, he’s coming off of a win himself last weekend in Iowa.

“There is a lot of momentum on the side the No. 2 PPG Chevrolet team right now, but we need to focus on this weekend,” said the 2017 race winner. “I’m definitely a fan of road courses like Mid-Ohio, especially because of all of the fans that show up there. There’s always a really great crowd that gets us all really pumped up for the race. Mid-Ohio is a place we’ve had some success at including a win a couple of years ago, which was the last time we raced the PPG livery there. We’re hoping it brings us luck again.”

Rossi, led 66 laps in last year’s win and is hungry for another victory.

“Mid-Ohio is one of the best races on the schedule and I can’t wait to get back,” said the Andretti Autosport driver. “The vibe from the fans is always amazing and we will draw energy from them as we look to repeat on the success of last year and go into the summer break with a win.”

You also can’t sleep on Pagenaud earlier. He’s shown us twice what happens when you overlook him.

“I’m super excited about Mid-Ohio,” said the Team Penske driver. “We’ve got five races left and we’re right in the mix of it. Chevy has done a tremendous job lately giving us a bit more horsepower, so I feel really in the game. We tested there awhile back, and the car was good. We’re going to do everything we can to catch Josef (Newgarden) and plan to make the Menards Chevy shine in Mid-Ohio. I can’t wait for the weekend to come.”
