Last Thursday, Stewart Friesen’s team lost a Truck before it even got on track. NASCAR confiscated their No. 52 Chevrolet following their primary truck failing inspection. It was a huge storyline as it resulted in an L-1 penalty. The points penalty for that could range from zero at the low end to 40 at the high end.
If it was 40 points, he’d fall to the cutoff line for the playoff standings. But, following a teardown at the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina on Tuesday, NASCAR announced that there will be no further penalties to Halmar Racing.
NASCAR officials said on Thursday that the truck was confiscated due to firewall issues inside of it. They’d have to take it aback to R&D to further evaluate it.
In that race, Friesen was forced to race at Kentucky with his backup vehicle which that mixed with starting last served as his penalty.
The reason for no additional penalties is that NASCAR normally gives the team a chance to fix the issue but due to there being no way they could from the race track, they just took the truck into their own possession. So, the no further penalty remarks actually do make sense then as it wasn’t as large as it once seemed.
