PLYMOUTH, Wis – We all knew that the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series rookie class would be among the most talented groups that this series has ever seen. Colton Herta became the youngest winner in Indy Car history in his triumph earlier this season in COTA. Felix Rosenqvist has already won a pole and has five top 10 finishes in nine tries. Santino Ferrucci has been a big surprise in leading not only the rookies in the points standings, but his teammate Sebastien Bourdais too. Ferrucci, was the Rookie of the Year for the Indianapolis 500 with his seventh place effort as he enters Sunday’s REV Group Grand Prix at Road America (12 p.m. ET/NBC/INDYCAR Radio Network) on the heels of four top 10 finishes in his last five tries.
Former F1 driver in Marcus Ericsson has two straight top two finishes himself including a runner-up on the streets of Belle Isle.
I didn’t even mention part time rookie Pato O’Ward yet. He’s been stellar when given a car capable of running quick. So far this weekend, the rookies have shined.
For Sunday’s 55 Lap race, we have one on the pole.

Herta, has led the charge this weekend as his No. 88 Honda was fourth quickest overall in Friday’s practice and second on Saturday. He’ll start in the top starting spot.
Rosenqvist, was fifth and seventh respectively in his No. 10 Honda but only qualified 18th while Ferrucci moved up to eighth overall on Saturday morning. He was penalized his quick lap in his group and will roll off 21st.
You can’t overlook O’Ward either. He was ninth on Friday and 10th on Saturday himself in his No. 31 Chevrolet. He’ll start 13th. By comparison, his teammate Max Chilton was 21st quickest among 23 drivers on both days.
Will we see a rookie driver win on Sunday? There’s a chance for Herta but unlikely for the others. It’s not their faults either. Josef Newgarden, Will Power and Alexander Rossi have been that good. But, they could compete for a top 10 and that’s impressive enough.
