Kurt Busch Hoping For Future LeMans Seat, Heading Overseas For Race Next Weekend

Kurt Busch mentioned this past winter that his deal with Chip Ganassi Racing was only for one year but he’d like to remain with the team for more. While he wouldn’t commit for a future in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series past 2019, he was prepared to walk away from NASCAR on a full time basis after the season too.

Busch, has a championship (2004) under his belt to go along with a Daytona 500 triumph (2017) too. Also, he has 30 career Cup Series victories overall. That’s a great career already. What more does he have to prove?

I honestly don’t think he has anything to prove. He’s a future Hall of Famer in my book. But, the Las Vegas native also isn’t wanting to call racing quits in general though. See, what attacted him to Ganassi is their vast array of cars that they own.

Ganassi has an NTT IndyCar Series team. He also has a sports car team as well. Busch, would love to race in the Indy 500 again one day. After all, he finished sixth in the 2014 ‘500 as a rookie with Andretti Autosport. On top of that, Busch would like a try in the two 24 hour races on the WEC circuit.

First there’s the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January. Then, there’s the 24 Hours of LeMans in June. Busch, will actually head over to France during the off week to join the CGR sports car team overseas.

“My first step is next week to go with Chip Ganassi to Le Mans and check out the GT program that he has and to experience Le Mans as a fan and also can I get a ride for next year and see how that plays out and does the schedule work out next year,” Busch said Friday during his media availability.

See what he said there? “Also can I get a ride for next year.”

Next year, the Cup Series races the same weekend that LeMans will take place. It’s just the way the calendar falls. If he was to race over in LeMans, he wouldn’t be a full time NASCAR driver.

While anything could change, Busch is eyeing a future in other series’ too.
