Power Fuming After What He Feels If Bogus Pit Road Penalty

INDIANAPOLIS – It’s hard to repeat here in Indianapolis. Since 1955, it’s only happened twice. Al Unser did so in 1970 and again in 1971 while Helio Castroneves accomplished the rare feat in 2001 and again in 2002. On Sunday, Will Power was hoping to join some elite company.

Unfortunately for him, his teammate Simon Pagenaud was the one sipping the milk following a thrilling victory in the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500. Power, feels like he was robbed of a potential win after being penalized for what race control deemed hitting a crew member in the pits on a mid race pit stop.

See, at the time, Power was solidly running in the top five. He was there literally from the drop of the green flag when he maneuvered his black No. 12 Chevrolet from the Outside of Row 2 to a third place standing by time we completed 2.5-miles.

He’d remain there the rest of the way until his penalty for what Power calls a shame.

“They ruined my day for no reason,” said Power. “I didn’t even hit a guy. Wait until I see them. What a disgrace – to ruin someone’s day for no reason. I didn’t touch a guy. It was a really bad call. Shame on them, man. We were really good. We were in that group in the end. It’s a disgrace that these guys control what happens on the track. I’m not happy at all.”

He entered the pits second but a slow stop moved him to sixth. Then, the penalty took him to the end of the lead lap back to 22nd.

He’d steadily move through the field though and bring his car home an impressive fifth. It was Power’s fifth top 10 finish in his last six Indy 500 starts and his third straight top seven finish on the season.
