Hunter-Reay Closes Out Frustrating Month Of May With 8th Place Finish

INDIANAPOLIS – Ryan Hunter-Reay says he stole an eighth place finish in Sunday’s 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500. See, Hunter-Reay never really had a good car this month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

For the INDYCAR Grand Prix, he started 16th and only finished 17th. Then, in practice for the ‘500, Hunter-Reay was only 12th, 27th, 30th, fifth, 29th and 15th respectively. His No. 28 Honda never had the pace but when they found speed, his car didn’t handle right. That’s why he only qualified 22nd for Sunday’s race.

So, to come out of the day with a top 10, he’ll take it.

A had a slow car in a straight line,” said the 2014 Indy 500 race winner. “There’s nothing I could do about that. The DHL crew did everything we could with what we had. In the end, we were dealing with a narrow drag issue that we couldn’t overcome.”

Hunter-Reay, said that he got everything out of his car and didn’t deserve to finish eighth. It was his 121st career Indy Car top 10 result and his fourth in the last five races of the season. He moved up to seventh in the series standings but hasn’t led a single lap this year.

Now, he heads to a track in Belle Isle to where he finished in the top two in each race a year ago. Sunday was also his fourth top eight finish at Indy in his last seven tries too.
