There’s just something about the No. 24 Chevrolet for the Coca-Cola 600. Jeff Gordon earned his first career Cup Series win in it in 1994. Now, William Byron becomes the youngest pole winner ever for the prestigious race in the same number for the same team (Hendrick Motorsports).

Byron, circled the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a lap of 183.424 mph to earn his second career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series pole, both coming in 2019, and his fifth front row starting spot of the season. The North Carolina native has earned the top starting spot for both “majors” this year with also starting first for February’s Daytona 500 too.

Starting second is Aric Almirola. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver was just 0.57-seconds slower than Byron as Almirola qualified with a speed of 189.069 mph in his No. 10 Ford. It will be Almirola’s fourth front row starting spot of the year.

Kyle Busch will start third in his No. 18 Toyota with a speed of 182.933 mph. That gives us Chevrolet-Ford-Toyota in the top three starting spots for Sunday’s race (6 p.m. ET/FOX/PRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Austin Dillon (182.766 mph) will start fourth while Kevin Harvick (182.741 mph) rounds out the top five.

Overall, Ford takes six of the top nine starting spots.
