VeeKay Goes Wire To Wire In Indy Lights Victory At Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Rinus VeeKay not only dominated Saturday’s second race of the Indy Lights double bill at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but he got some luck via some Andretti Autosport struggles to take over the points lead as well.

VeeKay, started on the pole in his No. 21 Juncos Racing entry and led flag to flag en route to his second victory of the season. The 35 laps led on Saturday was pure domination as he beat the field by 6+ seconds.

VeeKay, finished third in Friday’s first leg of the doubleheader and with his win on Saturday gives him four podium results in his last five starts on the season.

The 18 year old rookie finished third and 14th respectively in Indy Pro 2000 action at IMS last year and sixth and second respectively around the 2.439-mile road course in USF2000 action in 2017.

Zachary Claman DeMelo came home second in his No. 13 Belardi Racing entry and also moves into fourth in the standings too. The Canadian driver has three top two finishes this season already.

Oliver Askew drops to second in the standings as he finished third in his No. 28 Andretti Autosport car. Askew, has four straight podium finishes and five in six tries this season.

Yesterday’s winner Robert Megennis battled VeeKay hard from the drop of the green flag but he got off course in his No. 27 entry on the opening lap. He fell from second back to the back but fought back up to a fourth place run.

Toby Sowery rounded out the top five in Saturday’s race.
