Kevin Harvick bested his three Stewart-Haas Racing teammates to earn his third Busch Pole Award of the season and his 28th of his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career on Friday night at the Kansas Speedway. Harvick, circled the 1.5-mile track with a top speed of 179.217 mph in his No. 4 Ford to earn his fifth career pole at Kansas.
Harvick, has eight top 10 finishes in his last 11 Kansas starts including a win in dominating fashion a year ago. He led 79 laps in the spring race and 76 more last Fall on this very track.
He beat Aric Almirola by just 0.083-seconds in single car qualifying as Almirola will start alongside in his No. 10 Ford. Almirola, qualified with a speed of 178.725 mph.
Two more SHR drivers will share Row 2 as Clint Bowyer (178.324 mph) and Daniel Suarez (178.247 mph) will start third and fourth respectively.
The speed wasn’t shocking either. Harvick, was ninth and fourth fastest in practice earlier as he also led the way in both sessions on the 10 lap average chart too. Almirola, was first and ninth quickest respectively on single lap runs and second overall on the 10 lap averages too.
Bowyer, was second and third respectively in practice and third on the 10 lap averages to give SHR 1-2-3-4 in qualifying on single lap speed and 1-2-3 on 10 lap averages in practice.
Chase Elliott (177.954 mph) was best of the rest as the winner of last year’s playoff race at Kansas will start fifth in his No. 9 Chevrolet.
Chevrolet, put four cars in the bottom half of the top 10 with William Byron (7th), Kyle Larson (8th) and Alex Bowman (10th) joining Elliott in the top 10 of the starting lineup.
Last weeks winner Martin Truex Jr. will start sixth in his No. 19 Toyota.
