Tyler Reddick is being rewarded for winning the NASCAR XFINITY Series race last weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway. The Richard Childress Racing driver will get a second shot in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series with the organization as he will pilot the No. 31 Chevrolet next weekend at the Kansas Speedway.
Reddick, started 39th but finished 27th in his first career Cup start back in February’s Daytona 500. Now, he gets a second opportunity in the same car.
See, Reddick won the 2018 XFINITY Series championship in his first season with JR Motorsports. While he made 18 starts in the series in 2017 with Chip Ganassi Racing, JRM hired Reddick as a full time driver to replace William Byron a season ago. He only won two races all year, but they were the two most important. It was stunning to some to see him leave a ride that won the last two NXS titles.
But, when you thrown in the option to race in NASCAR’s premiere series with the new destination, it made more sense.
Reddick, won the season opener at Daytona and the season finale at Homestead en route to the title last year. Instead of returning to JRM in 2019, he decided to join RCR in their No. 2 Chevrolet. Currently, Reddick is leading the points standings in the XFINITY Series on the heels of six straight top five finishes and a top 10 in all but one start this year.
Now, with a week off in the series next weekend, he won’t have an off week as he will step foot in his Daytona car again.
