Is This The Week Larson Ends Winless Skid, Why Chip Ganassi Racing Are The Ones To Watch

It’s been 61 races since Kyle Larson last went to victory lane in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver won the final race of the 2017 regular season at Richmond. At that point, it looked like Larson had turned the corner, becoming what everyone thought that he’d be. That was his fourth win of the season alone and 11th top two finish in the first 26 races of that season. Since?

He’s 0-for-60.

It’s not like he hasn’t been close though.

Over those last 60 starts, Larson has seven more runner-up finishes and five third place runs in his No. 42 Chevrolet. While he hasn’t scored a top five finish this season, it’s not like he hasn’t been close.

Larson, finished seventh in the season opening Daytona 500 and charged from 31st to come away with a sixth place run last weekend in Phoenix. In the middle was two very good runs but not the finishes that he deserved.

In Atlanta, Larson led 150 laps and was the clear dominant car before he was caught speeding on pit lane on Lap 221. That derailed him to a 12th place finish. The next week in Las Vegas, he was fast again but was caught with a too many men over the wall penalty on his first stop and forced him to play catch up all day. He’d come away with a 12th place finish again.

Now, we’re to one of his better track in Fontana.

Larson, has scored three top two finishes in five tries at the Auto Club Speedway in the Cup Series. He led 110 laps in his win in 2017. He also finished second last year.

In XFINITY Series competition, Larson won this race last year as well as 2014 to go along with five top eight finishes in as many tries.

He’s also good at Fontana’s sister track in Michigan too. Larson, has four top three finishes in his last six starts on that 2-mile track including three consecutive wins from the late summer race in 2016 to both races in 2017.

Don’t sleep on Larson’s Chip Ganassi Racing teammate of Kurt Busch either. He has three straight top seven finishes on the season to go along with four top 10 finishes in his last seven Fontana starts.

This is a solid team to watch.
