IndyCar Offseason Ramping Up With Upcoming Test

INDIANAPOLIS – The offseason for the NTT IndyCar Series has been a noisy one. From a new TV deal to a new entitlement sponsorship to a whole slew of other announcements, this has been a very good offseason for the series. The foundation has been built.

Now, it’s about to get even louder.

The two newest tracks that were added to the IndyCar schedule will have cars on them three times in a six day span.

Last Friday, 21 drivers took to the Laguna Seca road course in preparation for September’s Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. This is the first time the series has returned to the track in years.

With no past notes to go off of as well as limited offseason track time, this was a highly anticipated test.

Most of the entrants this season were be on hand at the California road course.

Once the test is done, the teams headed back east. But, before they get to Indy, they’ll stop at Circuit of The Americas for a two day test which is being dubbed “Spring Training.”

The last couple of years, this test took place on the Phoenix oval. This year, they move to COTA. This test will feature 25 cars on the 20 turn Texas road course.

The sessions on Tuesday will run from 11 a.m. ET through 1 p.m ET then pick back up at 3:30 p.m. ET and end at 6:30 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, it will be 11 a.m. ET through 1 p.m. ET again then 2 p.m. ET through 6 p.m. ET to close out the day.

All the entrants are expected to run on Tuesday and Wednesday with the exception of the second Harding car who announced on Monday that Patricio O’Ward won’t be in it in 2019. As of now, the ride will stay in Indy until they can figure out the funding part.

Between the Laguna Seca and COTA tests is Media Day on Monday in Austin, Texas.  A lot of content will come out that day and throughout the week because of it.
